This is our first exhibition of 2024 and starts with a great exhibition by a very talented Whalsay lady. Most folk have gathered curiosities from walks, visits to memorable places, etc and these objects have inspired Susan's exhibition.

This exhibition takes inspiration from Cabinets of Curiosities and found objects to explore folklore, memory, and identity.

Susan is from Whalsay in Shetland and her island heritage is an important part of her practice. She works in traditional fine art media such as painting, drawing, and print, alongside experiential mixed media, found object assemblage, and textiles; examining entanglements of the human and non-human, and natural and man-made. She is interested in how art and artefacts can be used to ask questions and tell stories. The objects hold their own stories and when placed alongside each other these knit together to create new narratives.

Susan achieved a first-class honours degree in fine art from UHI Shetland in 2023 and she is currently studying for her master’s degree in art and archaeology with UHI Orkney.

Please get in touch if you have any stories you would like to share with her.
